Atlas Copco to open new manufacturing site in Pune, India

Atlas Copco is building a new air and gas compressor systems manufacturing site in Pune, India.

Set to be operational in Q2 2024, the new facility will feature a 25,000m2 manufacturing plant and office building. Atlas Copco is investing around ₹1,400 ($17,000) in the site.

Vagner Rego, President of Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique business, said the investment will cater to the growing demand of the Indian and export markets.

He added, “This expansion project is part of our strategy to remain first in mind, first in choice for our customers. It will enable us to reach new customers and markets and improve lead times.”

Once operational, the location will generate approximately 200 jobs.

Around 80% of the site’s energy will come from solar panels and 75% of the water will be derived from rainwater harvesting. Further to these sustainability efforts, the construction will also be in line with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) concept.

News of the expansion comes just days after Atlas Copco announced it has signed a deal to acquire Sykes Group from Seven Group Holdings.

Based in Australia, Sykes is a global manufacturer of dewatering pumps, predominantly used for transferring water with solids and abrasive nature within the mining and wastewater sectors.
